STORYTELLERS OF CEDAR RAPIDS

Elevating Voices, Building Community

Storytellers of Cedar Rapids is a live storytelling series produced by Akwi Nji and co-facilitated by Akwi Nji and Courtney Ball. Rooted in the belief that stories connect us, each season is a four-part series that invites local voices to the stage to share true, personal stories inspired by predetermined themes.

What to expect

Every event is a vibrant evening filled with opportunities to listen, share, and connect:

  • Featured storytellers sharing powerful, lived experiences
  • Open mic spots for emerging voices from our community
  • Live music from local artists to set the tone
  • Conversation and reflection to deepen community connections

Come for the stories. Stay for the connection.

Be a Featured Storyteller

Matthew 25 invites community members to take part in these unique storytelling experiences that bring neighbors together through the power of personal stories. Over the course of about 7 weeks, selected storytellers meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Matthew 25 to workshop and shape their story. Guided by facilitators, participants collaborate to craft a personal narrative connected to the show’s theme. Stories are memorized and shared on stage—no notes—at a culminating live event.

Why Participate?

Storytelling at Matthew 25 blends art, entertainment, and community-building. It’s an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences, connect with others, and contribute to a more compassionate, empathetic, and joyful community.
