A Night to Remember at Groundswell
Celebrating Community, Connection, and the Joy of Being Together

Last Friday night, March 28, something truly special happened at Groundswell. With the lights turned low and the tables set with care, our event space was transformed into a cozy, welcoming restaurant for Matthew 25’s Night Out at Groundswell — a four-course dinner designed for individuals and families who might not normally have the chance to enjoy a night out.

And what a night it was.
Thanks to the generous support of a Matthew 25 donor, we were able to provide a restaurant-style experience—complete with shrimp, steak, and a decadent chocolate dessert—to those who are more used to stretching every dollar just to meet basic needs. Several families told us they never imagined they’d get to enjoy a meal like this. One guest shared that even affording groceries some weeks can be a stretch, let alone a dinner out.
For some, this dinner became a chance to celebrate something meaningful. Many guests arrived in their best evening attire, eager to soak in the experience and savor every course. One table was made up of two families who had become close through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. They shared the evening in celebration of the mentorship and bond they’d built over many years. Others turned the night into a date night, a rare chance to slow down, connect, and feel special.
But perhaps the most powerful part of the evening was the atmosphere—it was electric. From the kitchen crew to our hosts, to every single guest who walked through the door, there was a shared sense of joy, gratitude, and dignity. We heard again and again: “This made me feel like I mattered.”
To everyone who helped make this evening happen—our staff, volunteers, donors, and especially our guests—thank you. You reminded us that something as simple as a shared meal can mean so much more than just food on a plate. It can mean connection, celebration, hope, and community.
