Manufactured Home Disaster Recovery Playbook

When the derecho tore through Cedar Rapids in 2020, Matthew 25 was instrumental in pulling together partners to provide assistance for many of the city’s most vulnerable citizens. Early in recovery efforts, it became clear that manufactured home residents were hit particularly hard by the derecho, and assistance was often denied or made difficult for them to access. Rather than leave some of the most vulnerable communities without a path to recovery, Matthew 25 and partners got to work finding solutions. Utilizing funding from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy Midwest Early Recovery Fund, Matthew 25 created a Manufactured Home Disaster Recovery Playbook to share key learnings with other communities who are facing disaster recovery or working to be better prepared in case of a future disaster.

This playbook consists of five videos and a 20-page document. Both the videos and document are structured with sections geared towards specific audiences: residents, construction/repair teams, park management, and funders. Within each section, there are ways for each of these audiences to prepare for a disaster before it happens, as well as guidance for recovery if preparation wasn’t in place.
